First establish whether you need Ramechhap
The Kathmandu to Ramechhap journey is the road leg to Manthali Airport, not a transfer to Kathmandu's domestic terminal. Use it when your dated Lukla booking names Ramechhap or RHP. CAAN identifies Ramechhap Airport as being in Manthali Municipality.[6]
Read the flight confirmation before booking the road leg. Do not move to Manthali just because a general trekking itinerary mentions peak-season diversions. Tara Air's conditions allow flight-time changes after ticket issuance; obtain the airport and reporting instructions from your own issuer.[2]

Leave from the agreed hotel or collection point
Get a written pickup address and an airport-specific transfer confirmation. A city-centre shared-vehicle meeting point is not automatically a hotel collection; a private vehicle quote should identify the exact address. Keep the driver contact and flight booking available offline.

Travel to Manthali Airport, not just Ramechhap district
Specify Manthali Airport (RHP) as the road destination. CAAN locates Ramechhap Airport in Manthali Municipality, amidst Manthali Bazaar. Its older airport profile establishes the location and code, not today's opening hours or flight availability.

Report to the carrier for the booked Lukla flight
Unload and account for your bags, then use the airline reporting instructions for check-in. The road-transfer voucher does not replace the flight ticket. Tara Air requires identity documents and the reservation code; its conditions also allow schedule changes after ticket issuance.

How long does Kathmandu to Ramechhap take?
Treat this as a substantial road transfer rather than a short airport taxi ride. Exodus currently describes an approximately four-hour outward drive, leaving its Kathmandu hotel at approximately 3am. Its return programme allows five to six hours from Manthali to Kathmandu. These are that operator's planning estimates, not a universal driving time or a public shuttle timetable.[4]
Do not calculate a pickup solely by subtracting four hours from the flight time. Loading, stops, road conditions and the airline reporting deadline still matter. FCDO warns that flooding and landslides can make roads impassable during the monsoon and disrupt journeys.[3]

| Your decision | Travel to Manthali the day before | Travel overnight from Kathmandu |
|---|---|---|
| Time allocation | Uses a separate travel day and a local overnight stay. | Keeps the previous evening in Kathmandu, but sacrifices much of the night. |
| Flight-morning handoff | Arrange a local transfer or walk from the exact booked lodging to the terminal; establish the distance first. | Needs a written pickup and reporting-time plan covering the whole road journey. |
| Road-risk decision | Allows the main drive to be planned in daylight. | Common in published trekking programmes, but conflicts with FCDO advice against travelling on buses at night. |
| Extra cost to price | Room, meals and any short local airport transfer. | Shuttle or private-vehicle fare, collection arrangements and any waiting charge. |
Do not treat the overnight shuttle as a safety recommendation
FCDO advises against travel on overloaded or overcrowded buses, or at night. Exodus's published 3am transfer shows how one trekking package operates; it does not override that advice.[3][4]
Our planning preference is to arrange the main road journey in daylight and a confirmed overnight near Manthali if the flight requires an early start. Establish the room address and airport handoff before leaving Kathmandu. Do not assume a private jeep removes the risks of darkness, road condition or driver fatigue. If your package includes a night bus, raise the daylight alternative before accepting the booking.
[3] FCDO: Nepal road, bus and air-travel adviceShared vehicle, private transfer or package transport?
A shared transfer suits a traveller who can reach its specified collection point and accept its fixed departure. A private vehicle gives control over the collection address, passengers and stops; it does not guarantee an open road or an on-time flight. A package transfer is useful when the trekking company takes responsibility for coordinating the road and flight handoffs. These are booking distinctions, not inspected recommendations for a particular supplier.
Price the full basket: road fare per person or per vehicle; hotel collection or meeting-point access; luggage; meals; any Manthali room; and waiting, cancellation or changed-flight costs. Exodus lists private-minibus transport and two internal flights within its own package, but that is not a standalone transfer price.[4] No current standalone fare has been verified for this guide.

Keep the transfer supplier and ticket issuer contacts separately. Establish whether a delay means waiting locally, another room or a return drive; obtain the charge before agreeing. Tara Air distinguishes airline cancellation from a passenger no-show and says third-party ground services have their own terms.[2]
Keep funds for unplanned accommodation and transport. FCDO warns that mountain-flight cancellations are common. Losing a transport day is not a reason to compress the trekking ascent.[3]
