Tengboche to Dingboche trek: distance, route and Pangboche stops
Trace the walk through Deboche, Pangboche and Shomare, compare published distance and time estimates, and keep Dingboche distinct from Pheriche.

How long is the Tengboche to Dingboche walk?
The Tengboche to Dingboche route descends through Deboche, crosses the Imja Khola and continues through Pangboche and Shomare before reaching Dingboche. Discovery World Trekking quotes approximately 11 km and five to six hours. Exodus publishes 11.8 km for its Tengboche–Dingboche stage. These are operator estimates, not a surveyed distance or a guaranteed arrival time.[1][5]
The initial descent matters: this is not an uninterrupted climb from the monastery. Starting from a lodge at Deboche also means starting beyond the first part of the walk. Keep the actual overnight village and lodge in the comparison.

- 1
Tengboche to Deboche
Descend through forest from the monastery ridge to Deboche, which Exodus spells Devoche. If you already slept at Deboche, this opening section is behind you rather than part of the morning walk.[1][5]

Cross the Imja Khola and continue to Pangboche
The route crosses the Imja Khola beyond Devoche and climbs into Pangboche. Passing through the village does not automatically include a monastery visit or a night there.[1]

Pangboche to Shomare
Continue up-valley to Shomare, spelled Shomore in Exodus’s itinerary. Both Exodus and Discovery World Trekking describe it as a lunch stop on their route. It is an intermediate stop, not another name for Dingboche.[1][5]

Shomare to Dingboche
The Exodus description continues out of the trees, crosses near the confluence of the Khumbu and Imja rivers and finishes with a short, steep climb to Dingboche. Use the named lodge to identify where your walk actually ends.[1]

Why a Phortse-to-Dingboche estimate is longer
Intrepid’s displayed 2027-onward programme begins this part of its outward route in Phortse Gaon, not Tengboche. It quotes around 14 km and eight hours for Phortse–Dingboche, with Pangboche and Shomare en route. That is a different start point and approach, not a second estimate for the identical Tengboche walk.[2]
Its winter notes substitute Tengboche for Phortse. Read the season-specific programme before copying its stage figures: the route heading, origin and overnight list must all describe the same journey.
[2] Intrepid: Everest Base Camp Trek, Phortse alternativeDingboche is not Pheriche
Nepal Tourism Board describes the route beyond Tengboche and Pangboche continuing to either Pheriche or Dingboche. They are separate village choices, not spelling variants. A booking that names Pheriche has not promised a Dingboche lodge, and a return through Pheriche is not necessarily an exact retracing of the outward walk.[3]
Similarly, an Ama Dablam Base Camp outing from Pangboche is an additional walk, not part of the ordinary through-stage distance. A monastery visit, a side trip and the walk to the next lodge should be separate entries in a programme.
[3] Nepal Tourism Board: Everest Base Camp routeFood stops and what the overnight price includes
Shomare appears as a lunch stop in the operator descriptions, while Exodus lists breakfast as the included meal on its Tengboche–Dingboche day. A place to stop for lunch does not mean the meal is included in a package price.[1][5]
For the overnight, use the named Dingboche property and room arrangement. Keep room, meals, charging and washing services separate unless the quote explicitly bundles them. The Dingboche guide explains those booking distinctions without treating route-wide teahouse notes as an inspection of every lodge.
[1] Exodus: Everest Base Camp TrekDo not turn the stage estimate into a deadline
FCDO identifies altitude sickness as a risk in Nepal’s trekking areas. A published five-to-six-hour estimate is not a target to meet regardless of how you feel, nor does it establish a safe overnight sequence. This page explains the geography and booking differences; it does not prescribe an acclimatisation plan or a higher outing after arrival.[4]
